About This Spot

Stepping into Golden Tea Shop, tucked away on a bustling Oakland street corner, feels like entering a quiet refuge where tradition and warmth meet. The pace here is unhurried, inviting you to pause, breathe, and savor the ritual of tea made with care. The gentle hum of conversation, the faint clink of cups, and the subtle earthy aroma from the fresh leaf teas create an intimate atmosphere that feels both familiar and special.

What sets Golden Tea Shop apart is its authentic connection to tea culture—each drink is an extension of the tea leaves sold right next door, grounding every sip in a thoughtful craftsmanship often missing from typical bubble tea spots. Whether you’re drawn to the richness of their Dragon-Well Milk Tea or intrigued by the playful balance of flavors in a Black Sugar Milk Tea with boba, every option carries a sense of place and attention to detail.

The menu reads like a journey—a seamless blend of comforting classics and inventive twists, from refreshing fruit teas kissed by kumquat and passionfruit, to creamy, indulgent creations that blend matcha or cocoa with unexpected textures like white boba or pudding. There’s also a quiet generosity in how the staff welcomes curiosity, happily adapting recipes or sharing knowledge about the teas, which adds a layer of human connection beyond the drink itself.

Golden Tea Shop is more than a quick stop; it’s a small neighborhood sanctuary where tea enthusiasts and casual visitors alike find a moment of calm in the city’s rhythm. It’s easy to imagine regulars drifting in after a morning walk or during a lunch break, lingering just a bit longer over a thoughtfully brewed cup that feels both grounding and uplifting.

I’ve definitely been gatekeeping this place for too long and i want it to do well so here goes my review! BEST BOBA /TEA IN OAKLAND! You know the tea is good when it literally has a tea leaf shop. All the drinks are made with the same tea leaves from the tea shop which makes this place so special. Prices are still reasonable (but even if they raise it I won’t be mad). I usually get their dragonwell milk tea and finally ventured into a pineapple fruit tea and it was just as delightful. Menu is massive but I doubt you can go wrong with anything. They also serve cute Hong Kong style street snacks like curry fishballs and fish siu mai as well as rice noodle rolls in sauce. I got a drink, noodles and siu mai today and it was $18 with tip. Cannot praise this place enough! The only somewhat downside is that it can take a while for your drink to be made but I like to believe it’s because they brew each drink with fresh tea leaves, none of that instant powder or pre brewed large batch of tea!

Like others have been saying — hands down the best boba / tea shop in Oakland Chinatown, using actual teas, fruits and herbs instead of powders. Great selection of loose leaf teas as well (inquire at the counter about shopping for loose leaf tea next door). Love the owner as well and the opportunity to support a small business instead of a chain ~

I come to Golden Tea Shop frequently. At least once a week when I'm in the office during the shelter in place, but before March, I came here 2-3 times a week sometimes. The main woman is very nice and friendly. She answers my questions and is willing to work with me to create new drinks. I've gotten a few items from here, but I mainly get the milk coffee. Two days ago, I decided I wanted to really treat myself and asked for the Oreo smoothie but with coffee in it. The main woman and I talked a bit and they did it! The coffee/Oreo shake was yummy!! I just went there again today and ordered the same thing but with a little more coffee. The shake tastes even better! I've never been disappointed here.

Tasty and affordable tea shop! Definitely can appreciate the variety and the freshness of the tea. We ordered the Mango Sago, Hong Kong Style Tea and the Dragon Well Tea with Pudding & Grass Jelly. All taste great and would come back!

Definitely one of the best boba I've had in Oakland. I got the brown sugar boba for $5.50, and the amount and flavor is perfect. There's a cute tea shop right next door too!

Golden Tea Shop is so so good! I have recommended this place to my family and friends and they always want to come back! It may not be the fanciest boba shop, but it is truly an underrated one. I’ve tried several boba shops in the Bay Area and this one has really good teas and toppings that are more niche (peach gum, tea jelly, etc). My personal favorite is the peach gum milk tea with black tea. It is so creamy with a nice tea taste, and I love the toppings it comes with. The price is great and the cup is a good size. Disclaimer: drinks take time to prepare bc it’s family owned so be patient. Give it a try, it’s great!

I have been to pretty much every boba shop in this area and have drank close to 1000 boba drinks in my life… and this is BY FAR the best place!!! They have such an extensive menu and everything tastes AMAZING! Their boba is sweet and chewy, their crema is fresh and perfectly salted, and all their teas are brewed perfectly. They also have the best prices I have ever seen. Since my first golden tea shop drink, I have been hooked. I literally refuse to go anywhere else now. Also, they are mom and pop shop which I love!! If you’re in the area, and even if you’re not, you should definitely come. This is the place I would walk through a hurricane to get to Pictured: Cake Crème Brûlée milk tea
